Premier League transfers 2026: biggest deals and what they mean

Premier League transfers 2026 delivered another huge summer

The 2026 Premier League summer transfer window produced another wave of major deals, with clubs spending heavily to reshape squads ahead of the new season.

The window opened on 15 June and closed on 1 September at 11pm UK time. By the end of Deadline Day, Premier League spending had reached record levels, underlining the financial strength of English clubs.

Several deals stood out not only because of their transfer fees, but because of the roles the players are expected to play at their new clubs.

Enzo Fernández to Manchester City

One of the biggest moves of the window was Enzo Fernández’s transfer from Chelsea to Manchester City for £125 million.

The move gives City another elite midfielder capable of controlling possession, progressing the ball and operating under pressure.

Fernández’s arrival could also give Manchester City more flexibility in central areas, especially in matches where they need to break down compact defensive structures.

Bruno Guimarães to Arsenal

Arsenal made one of the summer’s most significant midfield signings by bringing Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United for £75 million.

The Brazilian midfielder adds physicality, technical quality and Premier League experience to a squad that entered the season as defending champions.

His ability to play as both a deep midfielder and a more advanced central player gives Arsenal tactical flexibility across a long season.

Ezri Konsa strengthens Arsenal’s defence

Arsenal also signed Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa for £55 million.

That move became particularly important because of William Saliba’s long-term injury.

Konsa offers experience, pace and positional versatility, giving Arsenal another option in central defence while also providing cover across the back line.

Christos Tzolis adds width to Arsenal’s attack

Another notable Arsenal move was the signing of Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for £34 million.

The Greek winger arrived after an impressive season in Belgium and gives Arsenal another direct attacking option from wide areas.

His arrival also helped compensate for the departure of Leandro Trossard.

Tottenham’s £300 million rebuild

Tottenham were among the most aggressive Premier League clubs in the market.

The club spent more than £300 million on a major squad overhaul, bringing in players including Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Savio, Omar Marmoush and Mykhailo Mudryk.

The scale of the rebuild shows how strongly Tottenham backed Roberto De Zerbi’s project.

However, the early weeks of the season have also shown that integrating so many new players at once can create tactical and chemistry problems.

Aston Villa reshape after major exits

Aston Villa also underwent significant change.

The club lost several important players but brought in new talent as they attempted to rebalance the squad.

Villa’s summer business became especially relevant after a difficult start to the season, with manager and players speaking about the need for improved cohesion following a turbulent transfer period.

Deadline Day brought more late movement

Deadline Day produced another series of confirmed transfers across the Premier League.

Crystal Palace added several players, Sunderland completed late deals, and other clubs used the final hours of the window to strengthen depth and address injuries.

Late moves can often have a delayed impact because players arrive without a full preseason with their new teams.

That makes the first few months especially important for managers trying to integrate new signings quickly.

Which Premier League clubs changed the most?

Arsenal and Tottenham were among the clubs that made the most significant structural changes.

Arsenal focused on strengthening an already successful squad, adding quality in midfield, defence and wide areas.

Tottenham, by contrast, carried out a much broader rebuild after a difficult previous campaign.

Manchester City’s move for Enzo Fernández was more targeted, but the size of the fee shows how important the midfielder is expected to become.

Why these transfers matter

The biggest transfers of the summer are not only about individual quality.

They can change how teams play.

A midfielder such as Bruno Guimarães can alter Arsenal’s build-up structure. Enzo Fernández can give Manchester City more control between the lines. Tottenham’s large group of new signings could eventually give De Zerbi more tactical options once the squad settles.

That is why evaluating a transfer only by its fee can be misleading.

The real test is how well each signing fits the tactical structure around them.

What comes next?

The transfer window may be closed, but the impact of the summer business will continue to shape the Premier League throughout the season.

Some signings will settle immediately.

Others may need months to adapt.

The biggest question now is which clubs made the right decisions — and which expensive moves will fail to deliver the expected return.
